The Basement

Today I woke to chains around my little ankles and arms.

As much as I wanted to pry myself loose, I didn’t for I was aware of the terrifying clamor I would have caused.

Instead I cradle myself for comfort; I am my own company.

And I listen above to her heavy footsteps shake the wooden floor.

Her sporadic paces match her sporadic mind.

But I think she may have guilt on her shoulders, so I will wait for her to let me loose.

In the meantime don’t mind if I take a little nap as I dream of my mother setting me free.

Hush little baby don’t say a word. Let you forever be unheard…
